Halloween Costumes

Halloween has always been stressful for me. Ever since I was a little girl, my mom would make us make our Halloween costumes instead of buying them. I never felt like I had a good idea, or the skills/materials to make what I envisioned in my head. I thought that having kids of my own would change all that... but I am still just as stressed! I thought that I would just suck it up and buy costumes for the boys, but after realizing how ridiculously overpriced they are for the 3 hours they will wear them, I resorted, again, to making my own.

We decided that for the boys first real Halloween (afterall, they were only 2 months old last year), and since we live in Arizona, that the boys will be COWBOYS this year. I've already made their vests and chaps and I bought iron-on cowboy appliques for their onesies. Add to that a flannel shirt, jeans, a bandanna and a cowboy hat and they are set! I can't wait to post pictures!

I wonder if other people share my Halloween stress? I looked around on some parenting websites for homemade costume ideas and found a couple cute ones that I wanted to share. Instructions are on the corresponding websites.

What have been some of your favorite homemade costumes? Have you found a way around the stress of Halloween costumes? Please share!

I also lack sewing skills and have now spent at least 15 hours putting blue hair on hoods for the twins' Thing 1 and Thing 2 costumes...so yes, I am sharing your Halloween stress. Next year we are thinking robots...spray painting cardboard boxes and adding flexible pipe is more my speed.

I would never be able to sew a costume that would hold up even for 3 hours! I've seen great costumes at thrift stores/consignment shops. My little guy is going to be a bumbleebee this year and I spent $2 on the costume! The bigger one is going to be a giraffe (that costume was a gift from grandma & will be passed along)
